Berthold Beitz, 98, and his wife Else, have both been recognized by the State of Israel as 'Righteous Among the Nations', for having risked their lives in Poland during World War Two to save hundreds of Jewish adults and children from extermination by the Nazis.

A German Industrialist Berthold Beitz was a main contributor in the rebuilding of Germany's reputation, and was described by US President John F. Kennedy when he met him as, 'Finally a German who isn't uptight'.
