The Ration Book Diet is a book brimming with social history, food facts and recipes based on ingredients available during the Second World War.

Thanks Asha...I found it on Amazon which then led me to the Victory Cookbook by Marguerite Patten.

Lyn I haven't read the Marguerite Patten one yet, but someone at work thinks she may have it and if so will bring it in for me to look at. The fact that we got on to the subject at all came from her talking about apples, and my mentioning that in The Ration Book Diet one of the things mentioned is that oranges were scarce during the second world war, and when they were available they were always offered first to children. Have you read/used the Victory Cookbook?
