Just to let you all know that after 2 and a half weeks I am healing nicely. I slipped on black ice on the concrete path in our back garden while running to unlock the gate. I slipped and fell forward and hit my forehead on a stack of concrete pavers which raised a knot and was bleeding, and knocked my left upper arm against the edge of wooden lawn chairs folded up for winter. I bruised the front of my right leg from and including my knee to my ankle, and I sprained my left wristt. The first week I mostly napped and took pain pills. Now I am gingerly walking around.

I do want to report that I did not miss any of our daily cyber meditations, though. I wrapped myself in a blanket and propped myself up.

Blessings, Susan

OMG Susan. That sounds terribly painful. Good to hear you are recovering. Once your body can handle it try laying on a yoga mat with leg bent and hands under hamstring to support leg and try some slow ankle circles as well as some knee circles to get more mobility back in the area. Wrist and elbow circles can help too. Is your neck o.k.?

Monica, thanks for the tips. I think my layer of fat did me a service in the long run. I took most of the impact on my left wrist and right leg.

Rosie, you don't have to clear your mind to meditate. The mind remains active even when the body is still. To gain some control over your thoughts pretend you are sitting in the bleachers at a parade and watch your thoughts march by in your mind. The person in the bleachers is your permanent self, and the thoughts marching by are the changeable part of mind. Try seeing pleasant scenes march by and even slow to a walk going by. Breathe evenly in and out, in and out. Relax into your breathing and enjoy this time of increased peacefulness.

Good grief, Susan. I do send healing energies and a prayer for you. I know how serious injuries from a fall can be. Pay attention to the injured places to make sure they are healing properly. I hope you have a good doctor helping you.

Take care and be safe, Lovely Lady. ((Hugs)) smile

Dear Phyllis, Cassie and Rosie,

Thanks so much for your healing energies! Each day I'm moving around more easily. I now have a dedicated pair of shoes with metal cleats for icy and snowy days.

Hello Susan,

I think you are very brave and obviously centred with a strong mind and good thoughts! I am sorry to read of your accident. It is an amazing thing about life. Just when you need to concentrate and are not, it catches you - perhaps to teach, perhaps to warn or perhaps just because.

I wish you swift healing along with everyone else and trust that the long term effects of your injuries are minimised by your careful care of them now.

God Bless
Love from Lestie

Dear Lestie,

Thank you for your blessings and good thoughts. Since I've been napping more, one thing I must have needed is some down time to rest.

OMG is right. I've fallen really hard twice on ice. Once forward, splitting my lip open. Once back bruising my tailbone and leaving me too stunned to move for several seconds. The one case it was wet ice, the other I was wearing heels (not exactly known for good traction). It can be very painful indeed, but colliding with concrete, etc... OUCH! I can't even imagine. Hope your healing continues. We'll send lots of healing thoughts your way!

One month update on ice capade -

Only two sore ruddy bruises remain, both on shin bone right leg - yay! I'm feeling so much better. Small knot on forehead only visible to me - thank you, everyone for your prayers and healing energy.

OMG, Susan - I just latched on to this conversation. I am so sorry to hear of your ordeal. I'm also so glad to hear you're on the mend. A month out and still bruises on the shin? That's such a painful spot for injuries like you describe. And still a knot on the forehead? Ouchy!! I hope you're feeling much better - 100%! - very soon.

And thank you so much for the comparison of meditation as a parade. I've never seen meditation described better. Thank you so much for that beautiful insight!!

Sandy, thank you for your good wishes. You're right about the shin bone; I'm sure my layer of fat protected me from a broken leg. I've just about realized that with DNA a type W (5% of the population) I'm bound to be husky. My hereditary type settled the fartherest north on the planet, east and north of the Ural Mountains, now in Russia.

Thanks for your comments on my take on meditation.

Phyllis, thanks for asking, only one spot is still sore and the skin warm to the touch: the conjunction between my right shin and knee - where you would kneel down. Been 7 weeks now.

Seven weeks! It does not seem that long ago. I can so relate to the soreness and what it feels like just under the knee. I once fell many years ago and that spot was sore for quite awhile. It was when I was a young mother and always down on the floor playing with the babies, or hand waxing my huge kitchen floor with paste wax.

Other than your knee, it seems like you are healing well. Take care.

Cassie67 and Phyllis, thank you!

Phyllis, thanks for telling me you had the same situation, it helps me hearing about it from someone else.

NOW, I've scraped the pavers of all moss and dirt where I slipped, even though they were covered with ice. And as I approach my back gate and have to walk across those pavers I still look at them a moment and tread carefully. I guess the mental part will stay for a while.

Yes, accidents like that will put a warning button in our minds. You really are fortunate, though, that there was no serious head or neck injury or concussion. My sister broke her neck when she fell and hit her head. The front part of the upper vertebrae were fractured, they called it a C1 and C2 fractures. After one year she still has to have therapy and her movements are restricted.
