OMG is right. I've fallen really hard twice on ice. Once forward, splitting my lip open. Once back bruising my tailbone and leaving me too stunned to move for several seconds.
The one case it was wet ice, the other I was wearing heels (not exactly known for good traction). It can be very painful indeed, but colliding with concrete, etc... OUCH! I can't even imagine.

One month update on ice capade - Only two sore ruddy bruises remain, both on shin bone right leg - yay! I'm feeling so much better. Small knot on forehead only visible to me - thank you, everyone for your prayers and healing energy. Now, hubby and I each have a pair of shoes with metal spikes for ice and snow.

OMG, Susan - I just latched on to this conversation. I am so sorry to hear of your ordeal. I'm also so glad to hear you're on the mend. A month out and still bruises on the shin? That's such a painful spot for injuries like you describe. And still a knot on the forehead? Ouchy!! I hope you're feeling much better - 100%! - very soon.
And thank you so much for the comparison of meditation as a parade. I've never seen meditation described better. Thank you so much for that beautiful insight!!
