Living in a theistic and religious society, I've heard many say Whitney Houston, who died at 48, is finally "at peace."
I have to say I liked her voice more than her music, but her career has provided a sort of soundtrack for so many of our lives.
I found it sad that her life fell apart so dramatically. She seemed to squander her amazing voice, and lived her later years in such turmoil.
For that reason, I see why so many like to think of Whitney Houston in some sort of afterlife, free from suffering and misery. But it's hard for me as a nontheist to imagine this. I have a stronger belief that she is no longer conscious. So, yes, there is the absence of suffering, but simply as a byproduct of her nonexistence.
So sad. So many advantages in her life--beauty, talent, and prosperity. Love. Perhaps not enough love for her self.
