Anyone ever been to Camp Verde? It's the geographic center of Arizona and has access to just about any landscape or climate you could desire in less than an hour's drive.
Small town of 10,873 (2010 census) but pretty cool frontier history.
Plus, the Old Fort (which is downtown) plays on an old war bugle every night. They seem to be getting better at it.
