James VI of Scotland, son of Mary Queen of Scots, achieved where his mother had failed - he gained the English throne, and in doing so gained an additional title - James I of England.

James VI of Scotland

Thank you Angela and good to see you active on the forums again (may be I just have not been aware of it, but I noticed you made a lot of posts recently).

Hi Asha:

Yes, you are right - started to miss you guys SO MUCH - still trying to figure out how to do the FUN stuff (like this forum) around my homelife (the man, the dogs and so on) + professional.

Some days, I can visit the forum, some days not - but learning to do what I can each day and not continue to be the Type A = perfectionist I am. As we age (age 53) - we LEARN what is important in our lives...

Talk soon...

Angela I know what you mean about learning what matters. I've often found myself chasing things that in the long run don't really mean anything... Have you ever tried the exercise of writing your own obituary? It is a great way of establishing what really matters...

I wonder how James VI thought he would be remembered - in both Scotland and England.

Hey Asha:

Sounds like a very good idea and made me think, I do need to get started on those things I PROMISED myself I would do before I die.

Keeping in mind, tomorrow is NEVER promised!!!!

Thanks for the much needed "wake up" call - now I need to work on setting up my FIRST helicopter ride....

Go for it Angela. There was a company that did short tourist helicopter rides near where I used to live in the Scottish Highlands. I never got round to actually taking one...

I know for me one of the things I do want to do at some point is take a trip in a hot air balloon. I come from Bristol (England) where they have an annual balloon fiesta, and thus am familiar with multi-coloured and shaped hot air balloons drifting over the skyline.

Awesome Asha, yes that is on my list too. The only concern I have with the hot air balloon is where it MAY land!! Yikes...

From watching it in real life and on TV, sometimes the weather or equipment lands you in some interesting locations. But hey, I am up for the adventure.

Let us know when you do this - would love to hear how it goes, and I will do the same.

All the people I've talked to who have done balloon flights have really enjoyed them. The downside seems to be that if the weather is bad they may not happen. I don't think I've ever seen a hot air ballon in Scotland - it may be that the weather and climate doesn't equate to favourable flying conditions.

Good point Asha, never thought about the weather determining if this is offered.

So I guess you would have to go where it is being offered.
