What are your best frugal ideas for making great costumes for halloween?

And wearing a sheet as a ghost does not count. smile

How about if that sheet has a dozen holes in it and you hold a paper bag with a rock - a la Charlie Brown? Otherwise, get a load of rubber bands and dime store snakes and place them in your hair to be Medusa. Throwback to "The Gong Show". Place a paper bag with holes for eyes on your head and tell the worst jokes ever - The Unknown Comedian. Spider Queen - Take a bag of dime store spiders with the cobwebbing and drape your outfit with it. Get an inexpensive tiara to wear and attach the biggest spider you can find to it. If you happen to have a guitar, or even a low cost toy guitar, wear all black - pants and shirt. Dye your hair black for the night with those temporary dyes. Go as Johnny Cash. Wear torn jeans, a t-shirt, and a headband. Buy some temporary tattoos and place them where they will be seen. Carry a microphone (toy department) or a guitar and go as a rock star. Has anyone ever told you that you look like a celebrity? If so - play that up and go as that celebrity. Get magazines or books from the library featuring the celebrity so that you can carry off the makeup, etc

These are fantastic ideas! And I agree, the sheet counts in the case of Charlie Brown. Brilliant. smile

A suggestion from my Pagan page

Quote:
On the Halloween front; something I suggest to my US friends escorting kids around 'trick or treating' is to dress in smart business attire, carry a clipboard, and wear a big ID-type badge that says "IRS". Most of the time you only have to smile psychotically at the adult who comes to the door to give them a reasonable scare. But if you want you can utter hair raising 'words of power' such as:

"we don't seem to have your return Sir/Madam"
"Snap Audit!"
"I'm from the government and I'm here to help you"
Or the ultimate one:
"You know why I'm here"

Mind you, you might like to brush up on your CPR too!
