Does anyone else make their own pizza at home?

I love pizza! After adding up the expense of delivery, I've found I can make about 4 med. - large pizzas (thin crust) for the price of about 1.

I make the dough in advance and toss it in the freezer.

Any other tips experimenting w/flavors, crust types, ingredients?

When my kids were little, I often made pizza. They love it still. I used a tube of biscuits for the dough. Back then, I got them on sale for 10 cents a tube.

I let the kids decide what they wanted on it. I made the sauce, using a can of tomato sauce and added oregano, garlic, and a little Italian seasoning dressing to thin it down.

We each made our own pizza and smothered the toppings with shredded cheddar.

Our usual toppings we chose from were:

Dried salami
Pepperoni
Browned, crumbled sausage or hamburger
Onions
Green and or Red peppers
Mushrooms

With a green salad, it made a pretty good and inexpensive meal.

Gosh, can't do any better than .10 for those, well maybe w/couponing? What a great idea! What is dried salami?

Working with pizza doughs, there's all sorts of great things to make.

The dough can substitute for a wrapped sandwhich. Kind of like an empanada or hotpocket.

One of my favorites is a ham and cheese wrap or just the same ingregients you'd use for pizza, but folded up and baked. You can freeze those and toss them in the microwave and go.

I've even done the breakfast types, like egg, bacon and cheese. Seems the possibilities are endless.

These days I'm experimenting with different types of dough ingredients, like diastic malt powder and syrup.

Dry salami is very good! Here is a link to see:
Salami

The tubes of biscuits are more than .10 now, a lot more, but still pretty inexpensive for the plain biscuits. It makes a pretty good pizza dough. I just roll it out till it is flat.

Phyllis, when I had a home daycare, we would sometimes make bread dough. Then, each kid would get to make their own deep dish pizza. We used the same toppings that you did. Cheap, plentiful, and good eatin'.

Elliese,

YES! We love making pizza from home. Ok well I confess, my partner cooks it and I just eat it but it is so much better than ordering out now. Once we made the pizza dough with our home-made naan dough which turned out really good.

When my kids were little their favorite pizza was Italian bread pizza. I would buy a couple of loaves of bread. Slice it half and then in quarters. They would add their favorite toppings.

1. Leftover sauce
2. Mozzarella cheese
3. Broccoli
4. Diced up meatballs or sausage
5. In other words, whatever was leftover from Sunday dinner.
The kids thought it was the coolest thing.
