Some people read to live, in other words, read only the necessary things. I on the other hand, am a confirmed bookaholic, so much so that I actually have a monthly book budget How often do you read for pleasure?

I don't have as much time to read for pleasure as I used to but now I do audio books. I love them! I find I listen to books I might not read and they turn out to be really good. For reading actual books, I mostly stuck to mysteries but for audio I've listened to all kinds of books.

I walk my dogs every day and even sometimes when I'm doing housework, I can listen to a book, even though I don't have time to sit down and read one.

HealthyMom62, I enjoy audio books but the times I have tried I have been still, I have learned that I can't listen to audio books while sitting still because I fall asleep (it takes forever going back for do overs, etc.) Recently I bought several from my library surplus table, and will listen to them when I am active. You have a great idea--I hope it works for me.

My partner and I go through spouts. We have read books to each other (taking turns reading out loud and picking the book). I would say in the last 5 months we have read 2 or 3 books together. It has been at a stall lately because I keep falling sleep through her old romance novels lol. I like detective, mystery, suspense stories. I really need to step up, bite the bullet and try harder at staying awake through her books.

GoodMorningSunshine, do you two like J. D. Robb novels? If you are not familiar, that is Nora Roberts writing her In Death series. You get a bit of everything in this series. I am addicted to these characters as much I am to those in the television program The Closer. Not so much the couples as the super back stories that comes with them.

Actually Vannie, my mom loved Nora Roberts so I know I should have some books by her, but no I have not read them. I will have to check it out. I like James Patterson, Cathrine Coulter etc. For some strange reason I also like Paul Bowels among many others.

I am always always reading and always always have about three to five books on the go. I always always have a book in my handbag in case I get caught in a queue (at the bank, buying movie tickets, voting, even at the supermarket) It's like breathing for me, I can't do without my daily fix and lots of it! Read most things except horror and modern political fiction and Harry Potter style stuff. I make sure I re-read at least one classical author every two months or so. I love D H Lawrence, Dickens, Victor Hugo, the Russians and even Shakespeare (too many others to mention) so I am usually spoilt as the library has lots of those on the shelves. Find that biographies are very interesting too.

My daily thoughts include how privileged I am to have such freedom to read what I like! Perish the thought that I do not find some time to read, I would really be disappointed.

I could not believe my ears when I went to a hairdresser in a holiday town once who said she had never read a book. Never. When I asked how she had got through school, she said she'd asked her friends in her class to tell her the story or watched the movie/video or at a real push, followedd the study guide but that she found reading a boring chore. Oh my. It was then that I really felt lucky. I still do.

Like you I always have a book with me. Before I leave my house, I make sure I have my keys, cell phone and a book.

I have to laugh, I am just returning from sorting books that will be sold at my library's book sale next Saturday. I already know which books I will buy Such treasures. You know you have it bad when you fondle and caress pages and book jackets.

Vannie, I know what you mean about falling asleep if you listen to an audio book and you're sitting still. In fact, I often listen to one at night, (I pick a boring one-lol) if I can't fall asleep and it works every time.

Angela, I have not read "Practical Miracles for Mars & Venus" Is it by John Gray? I did read "Men are From Mars, Women Are From Venus" I found it eye-opening.

I read for pleasure on a daily basis. EVERYBODY at our house does!

When our kids were young, we put the TV up for close to a year. Our boys went from good decoders and reluctant reader to avid readers. It did not change when the TV came back. At 24 and 28, they still both have books that they read every day.

Books are awesome! I also read for pleasure on a daily basis.

I doubt there are many people who could give up television for almost a year

I only read book if I have good mood, :( But reading is really a good idea for us, no matter for learning, or for pleasure.

I know what you mean about having it bad when you caress and page through books and yearn to have them in your collection then make that yearning real by going to the sale and finding others you didn't unpack that first day and convincing yourself that you really ought to buy that because well you need it and/or you haven't read it and/or it looks pretty and/or it suits your collection because it's yet a another curries only cookbook that you do not yet have and just have to have and - okay now breathe as I think a person needs to.

Have you ever read that charming book 84 Charing Cross Road by Helene Hanff? GO GET IT NOW if not, the library is sure to have a copy. And if you did, did you like it? Oh how I enjoyed it. Gentle, funny, smart, characterful and refreshing ... and based on fact.

Lestie, I did read 84 Charing Cross Road. I remember loving it. I started smiling as soon as I saw the title.

LOL--it's always wonderful to find women who feel the same as I do about books, you know ready for "books anonymous." Today is our library book sale. My shift is from 9am to 11am. I already have a couple of cook books in mind and since I helped to sort them, I know exactly where they are. I'll get to the library at 8:30 for coffee and a quick look around to get my books before I start to work.

The downside of book love is that my apartment is being painted Monday. I have a very full bookcase in my bedroom, will spend this evening and tomorrow removing books from bookcase.(whine, whine, whine)

Imagine how smart your books will look with a repainted wall behind them? Now there is a thought, and think of how welcome the newbies you get from the sale will feel - smart wall'n all and not being rejected all the time by the public who doesn't always know what to read from the library and who just puts them back on the shelf or even worse just leaves them lying around!

I love the way you think Lestie I only bought four books, 2 cook books, 1 about Marilyn Monroe because I collect this and 1 a chilren's book titled William and the Magic Ring from the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. It is sooo wonderful. It has cut paper art.
