Anyone out there with alzheimers or know of anyone that has it?

Reason for asking:
Do you believe it can be prevented and cured?

I do smile

I have been reading alot about diet making a difference and making sure to exercise and use your "brain" (lol)

An interesting Alzheimer's study done a few years ago tracked a group of nuns from the time they went into the convent until their old age. By comparing their entry biographical essays written when they were teenagers with their mental health in old age it was shown that the young women with the largest vocabularies and most inventive imaginations were the least likely to show symptoms of Alzheimer's, while the ones with small vocabularies and dull imaginations had the highest incidence of Alzheimer's in old age.
It begs the question, though..did the verbal, imaginative ones tend to use their brains more throughout their lives?
The takeaway...no matter what your age, it doesn't hurt to keep exercising your brain!

hi angela my dad had it just before he died and i think my uncle may be starting with it. my sister doreen is caring for her mother in law after she broke her hip 3 months ago and now the mother in law doesnt recognise our doreen or her son roger, she asked who her son was and wouldnt believe it when they said -your son- in the hospital. senile dementia symptoms are more or less similar to this arent they.

A recent study in the Journal of Alzheimer's disease showed that meditation practice improved cognition in people with memory loss. So meditation appears to be good for the brain, as well as other parts of the body like the heart!

As a certified nutritionist and having worked with a few people suffering from Alzheimers, my own conclusion is that the basic culprit causing alzheimers are free radicals. Those are molecules that have lost one electron. If you have seen a picture of an atom with the two electrons spinning around the center ball, holding that ball in place, then losing one of its balancers, it would wobble. Those wobbling molecules in a brain are damaging everything they crash against. These free radicals come from cigarette smoke, auto exhausts, smoke from incinerators and trains, smoke from manufacturing plants, all pollute our air. The best protection are anti-oxidants from organically grown berries and other fruits.Betty jameson

I was reading recently one research that said Alzheimer to be hidden Diabetes. All the tested people as well had Diabetes that was not discovered yet.
