Hi Linda,
Yes it's tough when you can't paint the walls. Most apartments I've rented in the past used a "builder's white" on the walls. One place was more adventurous and painted the trim in a taupe which provided a nice contrast.

Are you able to hang artwork? Some of the places I rented here in the States didn't allow that unless I was willing to go back and fill in all the nail holes and repaint when I moved out or risk losing my deposit. Instead, I decorated with tall green plants and leaned paintings against the wall on top of bookcases (the ones filled with dishes). If you can hang artwork, that would go a long way in bringing color to your walls.

thanks for the reply donna i really liked your article, ive even painted old sets of draws with pink and some in eau de nil, i used an acrylic paint but satin finish is fine, half undercoat and half gloss brings the satin finish, you can sign write on vans with this mixture. your bedroom sounds nice with plenty of nice colours in ,you could imagine that you are sleeping in the open air with the blue green and purple that you have used.i think cream and buttermilk are nice colours for throws, i had some navy blue throws that looked nice. colour is a therapy to all of us its amazing how they change our moods. i had to skim over all the artex in this house and re-paper the walls with blown vinyl then paint them, it saved my sister lots of money. regards lawrence

I'm glad you liked my article, Lawrence. I'm enjoying hearing about your use of paint. I love color, but I also tend to agonize over my own choices just because there are so many that I enjoy! lol Your furniture must have looked lovely with the eau de nil. I love pinks and greens together and, definitely am a fan of painting furniture!
