for 6 servings:
1 cup dried split peas 1/2 cup frozen peas 1/2 cup fresh or frozen cut green beans 1/2 cup thinly sliced carrots 3 medium potatoes, cut into small cubes and steamed al dente 1/4 cup minced onion 6 strips cooked bacon or 3 cooked sliced hot dogs or cooked and sliced sausage 2 T vegetable oil seasonings to taste: salt, pepper, curry powder, dill, caraway seeds, garlic powder.
To make use a heavy pot like stainless steel or iron: Rinse and bring split peas to boil in 2 quarts water (more if needed)and skim off foam. Stir occasionally and simmer till consistency changes to soft mush like cooked oatmeal. Add spices that have been mixed with oil in saucepan and simmered a minute to combine flavors. Stir in in bacon, peas and cooked carrot coins, cubed cooked pototoes, finely chopped onion, green beans. Heat through while stirring and serve. To reheat simmer at low temp. while stirring.
If soup becomes too thick while cooking add small amounts of water as needed to prevent burning.

Susan
Minus the meat (I'm veggie) this sounds like a great recipe. I have thought of putting split peas and fresh/frozen peas together but haven't done it.
You don't give cooking times. If I'm making a split pea soup I normally soak the split peas overnight first. How long do you think it takes to get them to "soft mush like oatmeal?"

I don't soak split peas but anywhere from 1 hour to 2 hours cooking to mush. I don't know why the time is variable.
It is good without the meat. It's the seasonings that make the taste. Try adding cumin for the meatless version.

I will try cumin Susan.
I often put mint with split peas (a common accompaniment to fresh peas). A split pea soup I have just made, following your inspiaration, has included split peas, frozen peas, onion, garlic, Savoy cabbage and mint (I tend to add whatever fresh vegetables which are green or white/pale that I need to use up). I find celery also goes well with split peas.
