I'm so excited! I'm leaving for the Galapagos in two weeks, and I've never been there before. Have any of you been there? If so, any advice?

The Galapagos are islands off the coast of Ecuador in South America. They are famous for the unique animal species that live there, so I'll be taking TONS of pictures! And, of course, I plan on writing one or more articles on the topic when I return in January!

Lucky Laura! I went to the Galapagos a couple of years ago on a birding trip with a small group (12) on a fairly small (50') boat. It was AMAZING! Advice? Bring rubber wading shoes for wet landings because you will probably be taken to some of the smaller islands in Zodiacs. Your favorite seasickness pills for the inevitable day or 2 of rough weather.
I'm sure that you will love every fantastic minute of the trip, as I did.
Bon voyage!

Thanks for the advice, Claybird! I'll definitely plan on taking both wading shoes and seasick pills. We will be on a relatively small boat, though not as small as yours. We're traveling with Lindblad Expeditions on the National Geographic Islander. I plan to do plenty of birding as well as other wildlife watching!

Laura, did you say when you are going?

I am too lazy to go back and read the previous posts.

We fly out on December 11th to Guayaquil and immediately board the ship for 10 days sailing to various islands in the Galapagos. We'll then spend a couple of days in Quito before flying home again. Luckily I have wonderful friends who will house and dog sit for me the whole time we're gone. Can't wait!!!

We actually have 3 dogs - a golden, a lab mix (pound rescue), and a pug. Quite the menagerie!
