Jupiter was at opposition on September 21. When this happens, the Earth is directly between Jupiter and the Sun, so Jupiter is at its closest to us. This year was the nearest opposition in 47 years.

Jupiter has been bright and beautiful in the sky for most of the summer and will stay that way for some while to come.

Here is a new article on Jupiter. Since it's the planet in the Solar System that dominates the others, it's fitting that it's named for the king of the Roman gods. Jupiter has moons galore and monster storms, and it spins so fast that its day is only ten hours long.
