Okay, I know this is a winter site - but I wonder, how much are we really looking forward to winter? My guess is that as summer fades, people will begin to look forward to snow sports and fun. Until then, warm sunshine feels good! Where do you stand?

I'm a sunny/warm/summer kind of gal.
My most favorite activities are outdoor sports that require dry weather. I cringe at the thought of playing tennis in 28 degree temperatures, though I will have no choice in a few short months. And it's completely frustrating to arrive at the golf course only to find out there's a 3-hour frost delay.
The worst thing is the shorter days. I leave for work in the dark and I get home in the dark. That's probably the one single reason why I dislike winter so much.

i live in Georgia, we never truly get a winter where we can play in down here.
Although I am definitely looking forward to the cooler weather!

Oh, there are plenty of people looking - it's a poll! Go ahead and vote! Once you do, you get to see the results of what everyone so far has voted - it's fun!

I'm only looking forward to the winter because:
1- I'm getting so tired of this stifling heat. 2- I never noticed how few summer clothes I had that weren't t-shirts. 3- I love bundling up in bed during the winter. I can't sleep in heat. 4- An occassional snow day doesn't hurt either. :-) 5- I take about 5 showers a day during the summer.
It's almost October and we STILL have 90 degree heat and humidity!

I would be OK with skipping winter altogether.

Yep, the answers are looking pretty honest so far! (Susan's comment case in point) I am not a fan of the increased darkness in the winter months - part of why I try to get out some when I can, especially during the daylight hours! Michelle, my inlaws live in Dallas, they have the same situation, it really does osund like a whole different world to me. Dianne, I visited VA in summer, and I was soooo glad I had access to a pool. I can't imagine life there without AC!

What is snow? Temps finally dropped to the upper 90's so I'm happy but would not mind some days in the 70's.

Yeah, we don't have much winter in Memphis either. Like, when it does snow (quite rare), the city practically shuts down. Our winter sport is driving on bad roads (we do get occasional ice).

I never realized you were in Memphis. I have always wanted to visit there. Sounds like a great place.

Deb, I think that type of driving is an extreme sport. I lived in Oregon for about 7 years. The community I lived n got snow every couple of years. I used to stand by the road and watch all of the craziness - no one knew how to handle it, or was equipped to drive on icy roads anyway.
I suppose the best part of the winter months for those in warmer climates is not needing AC.
I love getting out and being active in the snow, but the increased heat bills, icy roads, and having to plug in my cars engine block heater get old really fast.

Bring on the heavenly blanket of solitude... for I'm a Colorado transplant due to the job market.
I, too, am ready to disperse with the Virgina heat & humidity. Because DC area has the traffic congestion, the diversity of winter experienced drivers (from no problem <me> to lousy <most of them>) and the abundance of the invincible SUV, I have front row seat to many candidates to 'America;'s Funniest Home Videos' - just don't have a camera to film it when it happens.

B, I went to Va and DC summer before last, it was wonderful. So much cultural stuff to do! I think the hard part about living there would be making sure to take advantage of it!
Right now, it is snowing good where I live. I don't have to think about winters approach anymore, for it is here! Now, to break out the skis and find new snowshoes on Craigslist....

Skyhaven, its funny you mention those things. My 10 yo daughter was asking me why so many adults don't like winter when there are so many activities she likes to do then (playtime, basically). You mentioned a few of the adult responsibilities I named!
