Joy, quite possibly that is exactly what it all boils down to. I'll do some thinking about that article. Thanks. <3

Posting your priorities by your computer can really help a lot! They are about those core beliefs you have. They're not concrete goals. They're "beyond" goals. They are why the goals are important to you smile

Jilly - now that you are settling in, are your priorities becoming more clear?

Well i am learning what my priorities aren't. That's a start.

They are not to move any more. i want to settle into a life and town, and only travel if i feel like it.

They are not to let thing pile up behind me into this overwhelming stack of to dos that paralyses action and gives me an excuse to meltdown.

Not to work just for the sake of the income. To figure out the minimal i need to be happy and feel safe, and then spend the rest of my time in leisure pursuits.

What I do want:

A car that I take care of, that is reliable
fresh food
emotional support
Health needs that I am on top of
time for me: creativity, yoga, being outdoors
a clean and organized life space, where I know where everything is

Hi Jilly, to have sorted out in your mind what you do do and do not want is a huge exercise. Your list of 'wants' is a good one for looking after both your body and mind. (JOY)

Jilly - those are great goals in life! So let's figure out what priorities underlay those goals, and then you can post them by your computer!

So the not moving and a sturdy, reliable car both seem to point to stability. Stability is a great priority!

The food / emotional support / health all points to a health priority, which is on my priority list too, and is on many editors' priority lists. That's great!

The clean and organized world around you is sort of stability, but I'd make that separate and put that into an "ordered" category. That way you can sort out goals that work towards both of these priorities. I don't have order on my list, but you've made me realize that I *should* because it is such a problem for me. Maybe that's why I haven't made much progress, because it's not on my list! So thank you!!

Then we have the creativity / yoga / being outdoors which ties into your serenity and peace of mind. So that definitely is a key priority.

How is that for a list of priorities, to go with your statements?

I was just realizing that every time I want to revisit my priorities and goals that I have to go digging through these threads to figure out what I last posted. Which is sort of silly smile So I have made up an actual Word Document, with a pretty font, which has my

* overall priorities

* five year goals

* one year goals

That way I can hang this by my desk and have it all right there! It's much more likely I'll focus on them if I can remember and see them!

So my current overall priorities are:
* helping others (directly)
* helping others help themselves
* being more healthy
* finding serenity
* keep learning
* order / organization

The next step after laying out your overall priorities is to work on the five year goals, that line up with those priorities!

Five Year Goals

Okay, that sounds good. Stability, health/fitness, serenity, creativity, order, and I'd like to add joy.

Okay, i wrote those on three post its and hung one in my bedroom, one in the bathroom and one in the kitchen.

I can't put one in the office - I will never see it under all the to do notes. smile

However in the office I do have a note that says, "Find the Quiet path through the middle"

Jilly - that is great! Remind yourself daily of all you have achieved already, and what your priorities are for your happy future!

I have posted my priorities, my 5 year goals, and my 1 year goals right next to me on my desk. I will look at it each morning, to remind myself of what I need to focus on.
