Tragedy and sorrow hit our family twice early this month. My two nieces (they are sisters)and their families lost two dear friends -- both were motorcycle accidents. The first one was a very beloved man who had been like a brother to my niece and her husband. Her husband had known this man since they were very young -- that is over 40 years. The two families are getting together to hold a Celebration of Life this weekend.

The day after my niece and husband lost their dear friend, my other niece and her family lost a beloved dear friend. He was a young man, and very close to my great nephew. They had known each other since they were little boys -- over twenty years. He was like another son to my niece and a brother to my nephew. My nephew organized a candle-light vigil on the football field where they played football together in high school. My niece said when they walked out on to the field just at sunset, they felt their friend walking with them out on the field for the last time. She said it was beautiful, many, many people turned out and it was a very spiritual experience full of love and prayers. She took a picture just as the sun set and it was profound, the beauty of it all was just profound. It was like their friend made his final touchdown and once again they were all there to support him.

Times like this bring our family closer together in our faith and in our prayers.
