I just don't get it. People come in looking for a cat and nothing suits them from the over 100 or so we have. It's so hard to see these people come in looking for a specific fur color, or eye color. Seems these are more important than the personality of the furball. If people really want a pet, why not find one whose personality fits, is friendly and would love the bejeebies out of them.

that's just weird. Are cats accessories then? Do they have to match the decor? lol

I just like animals that like ME. :-)

I find that sad, that people look for everything in a cat except whats important, character, personality, are we compatible.
There are so many lovely homeless animals out there, adopt one.

I have expereinced the same thing with the feral cats I have placed over the years. Great loving cats that flirt and do all sorts of things to capture the heart of almost all that come as a perspective home - I swear they know that they are performing for a place in someone's home. While I think that some are trying to accessorize the other thought is that they are trying to replace the look of a cat that they loved in the past - we all tend to stick with what we know. That said I think its a shame that over 100s they cannot connect with one or more - perhaps they're not really ready to commint to another fur ball.

Susan, that thought occurred to me after I wrote that thread. Committing to an anima is, or should be, forever committiment. Could be once in the vicinity of so many the reality of what will be overtakes and it's easier to say nothing appeals to them than admit they'd rather not take that leap into a relationship with an animal at that time.

Along the lines of volunteering (title of this post), I have been spending time unofficially with the animals caged at my local animal control. I try to head over there for a little while every time I am out and about town.

A great thing to do Jilly - it all helps to socialize them and make a more appealing perspective addition for any family

Thanks. I really enjoy spending time this way. Most of the cats are very appreciative of the attention.
