Hi Jase,

Great article, I see myself in it.

My problem is that, as in your article, the client new he wanted a number 2 clipper. I wouldn't know what a number 2 clipper was. My husband knows that stuff, I don't. If you had asked me for more details about what I want I would not have been able to answer with those specifics.

The first time I went to the stylist I used to go to, I showed her a photo of what I wanted. She asked me what I liked about the style. I was shocked, I'd never had a stylist ask me that before. I was able to explain to her and I got exactly what I wanted. As I mentioned in another post, she is no longer at the salon and they wouldn't tell me where she went. The stylist who did my hair after her left the sides uneven, and where the layers in the back blend into the longer sides they are also uneven. I wish they would just tell me where my favorite stylist has gone. She seemed to understand me even though I can't speak in accurate hair terms.

So how does one communicate, when you don't know how to explain what you want?

It is then the responsibility of the stylist to help you facilitate what you want. If you explain how you just explained to me the parts you do not like, then they should be able to work it out with you what you would like.

As for the clipper number, it is just an example. Most stylist should also know if a guy says he wants his hair to be 1/4 of an inch clippered, then that is a number 2 guard. Each clipper guard is 1/8 of an inch. If you don't get clipper cuts, then you don't have to worry ;0)
