My husband and I lived in Standard, IL and left for a number of reasons. One of them being the town decided to give themselves a $25.00 raise by charging every household a permit fee to have a dog. This isn't a licence/dog-tag fee. It's in addition to that registration fee, just for having the dog on the grounds.
It was ridiculous. The entire population has median houses and you have 3 or 4 gargantuan monstrosities smack dab in the middle. Clearly outspending beyond their means, kids runing up and down the streets in golf carts and izod shorts

. Plus, at least when we left, the only outside income came from just one of the houses. A woman working part-time. Other than that no one worked outside of the city. It's simply their neighbors/citizens paying their salaries. That my best guess for the exotic pet fees. I wonder if people stop to think how their town representivies or statte for that matter afford what they do? Through our fees and taxes - our labor. That's it.
