How are people doing with their journals during the stressful holiday season?

I'm finding it really helps to spend 20 minutes "decompressing" as I rest in bed, winding down from my go-go-go workload of the day.

I know several people that use bedtime as a time to journal. I tend to do my writing and art in the mornings, as a positive way to start my day. I also carry it with me in my purse to update during the day, especially at this time of year, as my gift and to-do lists tend to end up in the journal.

I moved the weekend before Thanksgiving and in the midst of packing stopped to browse some old journals. Found a journal entry with stocking stuffer list and Christmas grocery list from 1993! Fun stuff, as my children were young.

If it weren't for my journaling, I don't know how else I would cope with my son-in-law's passing. I just looked on facebook and read that my dauther was up all night with her four-year-old who was crying for his daddy. I can't stop crying. And it hurts more because she doesn't seem to need me around like I thought she would. She still has his facily near by and doesn't seem interested in spending time with me at all. Yes, I still cry, but I also get my frustrations out on the page so I can sleep at night.

That's so cool to read back over old journals Angie! Was there anything that stood out?

Lynn Ann - that must be very rough for all of you. I'm sure she does need you too, but people show grief in many different ways. She may be trying to be strong for her child ...

Oh, the holidays... they bring out so much to write about.

Like all the holiday movies.

What's your favorite?

Mine?

A Christmas Story...

First, last, always.

I guess I love it so because it resonates. The scenes in downtown Cleveland. I grew up near there. There really WAS a Higbee's, y'know, and it was Just. Like. That.

It helps me to remember that there really were glimmers of good in the Bad Old Days.

A lot of younger folks with whom I work don't seem to get it. It may be just a sign that the world has changed, I dunno...

I'm not sure that I have any holiday movies that I watch. When I think of a movie that has holiday references, it's Die Hard wink
