I was just thinking that it's aggravating to see all the games my friends play on Facebook. That's a great idea to block those images.
I have rejected and unfriended people and it was not pretty. About 3 months ago, I repurposed my Facebook account for only my church friends from when I lived in Italy. You would have thought I committed some felony by the response I received from 2 people. I simply explained to them that they were not being singled out and that I had different plans for my Facebook account. They won't speak to me now, but if they are going to be that petty, then I can't be bothered with them anyway.

I was at a gathering today and ran into someone I've known for quite a while. I said hi and was friendly, but he barely responded. We see each other about once a year and in the past he'd always been friendly.
The only difference is in this past year he tried to friend me twice. I ignored the requests because I try to keep Facebook focused on family members and editors, so I can handle their requests and situations promptly.
So I think it is solely because I wouldn't let him become a Facebook friend that he now won't talk with me.

I accept almost everyone on FaceBook - haven't had very many people on there that I didn't know (I generally check out the friends of friends list first though).
MySpace I keep getting hit on by strange men in Atlanta, weird!
Twitter I keep getting followed by strippers!!!!! weirder
So I am wayyyyyy more careful on MySpace (which I barely use anymore) and Twitter.
I am a FaceBook junkie, though! If you are from BelaOnline - just let me know and I'll generally add you to the list - no problem!

I was pondering this situation and wondering if I should just accept the friend request - but then hide them. That way I wasn't hurting their feelings but their posts didn't interfere with what I use facebook for.
It feels wrong for me in one sense, because I'm making a statement to them "I will have you on my friends list" but then in actuality I'm not really doing it.
On the other hand, from their emotional point of view, it's a simple toggle. Accept = happy (for whatever reason it makes them happy to have friends). Reject = unhappy (ditto). So if this is important to them, why would I want to cause them to be hurt, when it is so "simple" to give them a dose of joy?

Lisa, i think the idea of making someone happy from a simple act can't be a bad thing. And don't forget, they will now be able to read your updates and posts, which is what they probably do use Facebook for.
I have my privacy settings set so only Friends can see my photos, links, updates, everything. If that is what you do, then this person will be able to find your helpful links, and you will be spreading goodness to this person's life, in addition to making them feel wanted.

When I was on Care2 I did. If I would be on one of these social network website I would check the profile first but since I never will be on any of these websites I will never know if I would accept every invitations or not .

I'll report that I gave up on keeping my Facebook page private. It just made too many people sad that I would not friend them. So I went the opposite direction. I now accept pretty much all friend requests, and I no longer post anything private on Facebook. I just use it for public posts. That way I'm not making people sad.
