Hey all you car polishing and detailing enthusiasts: let's have an old fashioned tail gate party, bring your snacks and beverages and let's talk about the detailing on your cars and what you use to keep that beauty shiny and clean!

Now - I am not an expert, in fact I know very little about detailing. Could someone explain to me exactly what "detailing" is and the choices you have there?

Also, my Dad used to use a heavy paste wax to keep his cars shiny. It was hard work and took him all day to rub it in, let it dry to white, rub it off, then use a chamios to buff it, but it would last for a long time. What do you use?

I live in Reno and every August we enjoy the "Hot August Nights" events and cruisin' parades. Has anyone ever been here to see these events. The shine on those classics is awesome!!!

I've seen those cruising events before too. It is remarkable how much shine is out there. I wonder how much time it takes to get a car ready to show. More patience than I could muster.

Phyllis, I personally use the same type of stuff you dad may have used (when I get to it). When I finally washed and waxed our pickup, it looked almost new.

I don't like the outside of my cars to be really shiny - I like to 'fly under the radar' with my cars, so to speak.

But I do like the inside to be spotless. I use clorox wipes, rubbing alcohol, q tips, toothbrushes, small shopVac attachments and my Little Green Machine for the upholstery.
