Hi all, I was wondering what other uses you may have for your quilts. The old and the new. I use my old quilts for my husband to sit in our good lounge suite. He has a tendancy to get very hot and sweaty in the summer and these quilts are perfect for him to sit comfortable, without damaging the good chairs. The quilts wash beautifully in the washing machine, and everyone's happy!!

What other uses do you have for your quilts?

Cheerio for now

Let's see ... on the beds, the walls, as table toppers, as runners, as pet comforters .... just as a start.

While I am not using a quilt for this purpose right now, I have in the past used one to cover a north window. They are good insulation against those cold winter north winds. Also help to keep the room cool in the summertime.

Quilts also make good mattress covers, especially if they include thick batting - they take away some of the lumps.

Whenever I have moved, I have wrapped my wood furniture with quilts. They really prevent scratches and absorb some shocks. I have one piece in storage wrapped in a quilt. The piece is antique, the quilt is not.

When my oldest grandson was crawling and just learning to walk, he hated the feel of grass - all grass, but especially freshly mowed grass. We would put him on a quilt in the front yard, and it worked as if the quilt had a fence all around. I think we could have left him alone for hours and he would not have left that quilt. That all changed when he became used to grass, then it was go, go, go.... And it did not work for any of the other grandkids.

I just love having a pile of them neatly folded on a blanket box to admire. And of course I have one folded on the end of each bed and over the arm of the lounge so we can snuggle under them of a cold evening.

When we lived in Michigan, we rented a drafty, old farmhouse. I hung a thick denim quilt over the door to block the drafts that came through the gaps. Worked really well. My husband now hangs that same quilt behind his computer work space; he clips to it papers and small items he doesn't want to lose. Sisterhazel

Candle mats make wonderful small quilted gifts as do table runners and wall quilts. I also make small quilts to throw over the backs of chairs and seats of chairs where my cats tend to lay, then when company comes, I can just take them up and the furniture is free of cat hair and the small quilts can be washed and used over and over.
