Hello out there. I wanted to introduce myself I am Carla. I am married to a hispanic man. When we first got married he knew no english and I knew the teenyist bit of spanish. We have been married now for 4 years. I love him more today than I did when we got married. We still have communication difficulties but we make it through. Usually laughing about the way one of us has said something. We are moving to Mexico in 3 years, when my youngest son graduates high school. I have been doing some research on the cultures and the state of tabasco. It is going to be an interesting adventure. Anyway hello everyone. smile Nice to meet ya.
Carla

Hola Carla. Benvenido. Multi cultural families would be very interesting in trying to blend together. Since you and your husband couldn't communicate well, what attracted you to each other? I don't know much about Mexico. We have many Hispanics from Mexico, Central, and South America in my area. We have added a few customs to our lives here.

Really I dont know what it was...I believe it was his eyes, he has the gentlest eyes...but some how we have made it work...even my then preteen sons feel in love with him...they are now 18 and 15 and are all very close. I am amazed daily that we make it...they say marriage takes a lot of work but I didnt know to argue I was going to need a dictionary wink
Good night all.

Just read your post. If you have to use a dictionary to argue, I am sure you've cooled down some and, if it was me, I'd be laughing by the time I was finished looking up a word.

Sounds like you have a winner.

Unlike Carla, however, I know exactly what attracted us and kept us together. He was and still is the most delicious man I've ever met. I just had to have him. But, I COMPLETELY understand needing a dictionary to argue. Such headstrong men! I love him very very much, though, or I wouldn't put up with him. Our twins are 3-1/2 and our youngest baby is 16 months old. All our children are bilingual and beautiful. Our multicultural family is difficult to maintain at times to keep a proper balance or jealousy becomes an issue. It is important that they learn all of their heritages (mine is very mixed with about four different heritages), which can be challenging. Does anyone else have this problem? Melody

You have a nice story too. I have a friend whose daughter who is fluent in Spanish met a young man in Costa Rica or thereabout. They have a lovely family. He works here but still does not speak any English. His family is bi-lingual. They have a happy marriage.

I wouldn't say my marriage is "happy" all the time, but it's very passionate, which can be happy at times. There are some cultural differences, though, that pose problems for us where we do not see eye to eye. For example, machissimo can cause issues with almost anything as it relates to almost everything and it is the exact opposite of gentlemanliness in English culture. It can be very difficult to find common ground at times.

Marriage is not always happy in any culture. Couples need to work at it constantly.

So I've heard. Apparently, I'm not the only one with issues.

It is an awful lot of work and compromise, isn't it?
