I just wrote an article in the Cars section regarding the program. I'm sure it will be funded again and hopefully it will spur the rest of the economy. Unlike most of the wasted stimulus money that went to constituents pet projects, this one is making a real impact.
People love incentives. The program was renewed and one good thing is that it brought people to the showrooms to check out cars. I hope that the crushed vehicles will be processed in this country instead of shipped out to somewhere else. I'll check out your article.
The incentive program ends Monday. Many dealers are ending it sooner so that they can complete the paperwork. Some dealers sold a bunch of cars and the government owes them a bundle of money.
It will be interesting though to see if anyone buys cars without an incentive. Of course, there are always trade-ins and other dealer/manufacturer deals to be had.
