Once brain cells die, that's it. Your body doesn't make anymore past a certain age. True or False?

Well, I just took college A&P and they still teach that neurons do not regenerate so once they are gone then they are gone. (Although there is new research with monkeys that show some very small neurons do regenerate but not studied in humans yet, we could only hope!)

this might sound daft but i think its the nerves that don't regenerate?

The neuron is a nerve cell. The axons of the neurons or nerve cells are what makes a "nerve" in the sense of what I think you are talking about. The nerves are many fibers from many neurons. If the neuron itself dies than it does not regenerate but if the nerve is in the Peripheral Nervous System (all the nervous system except the brain and spinal cord) than it is possible to regenerate if a good part of it is still intact.
