This thread is for mixed tanks that are not cichlid or betta-oriented. Post your comments and discoveries here! fish

I have really dove head first into fish ownership after years of going fishless.

The guppy is curious about his new surroundings.

One shrimp is carrying eggs so I am preparing a maternity ward for her. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Of course there is the chance that they are never fertilised but the kids are too excited for me to remind them of this.

Is this the sort of thing you want to see here?

The aquarium I am borrowing from my daughter is an older one. It looks to hold a gallon of water at least. There is a pump and a screen at the bottom much like the Betta bow bowl I have.

The other is one of those tiny Betta containers in that funny bow shape and has a divider.

Both are temporary housing. I am really interested in buying something a bit bigger for the Betta and getting a larger new aquarium for the others.

I am still lost as to these newer things however so I am reading to learn.

Hello Lady R...

I had a shrimp that was carrying eggs...and they hatched! We all thought that was pretty cool...but then the fish ate them...oh well. I figured that would be the case..so we weren't too upset about it.

I am hoping to avoid the extra course on the fish's menu by seperating the shrimp.

I recall we had both shrimp and guppies hatch. Very rarely did we see our fish numbers actually multiply.

We lost the shrimp. I plan to try again with several new ones when I can make it back to the store.

oooo, sorry about your shrimpies. bettas tend to eat them, but my guppies leave them alone.

They weren't eaten. They just didn't make it past that new fish phase.

ooh, good thread, as I am still getting my 20g community up and running. I got a dwarf gouramie on sunday, and today (Thurs) he has a patch of somthing on his side behind his gill. he is eating and mostly acting ok. To me it doesn't look like fungus, it looks more like whitish/peach colored flesh, and there is a red spot underneath it as well(it's very small). I don't have a hospital tank. All the water tests have been good all week, so I don't know. Any suggestions?
