I've been wanting to purchase a crock pot for the past couple of years. The last one that I had many, many years ago, I didn't use too much, but I've been looking at a lot of recipes that seem as if they would work well with a crock pot these days.

Anyone use crock pots for any of their cooking?

I love using a crock pot. I can start my dinner when I go to work and it is ready when I get home. A week from Monday is my daughter's birthday - we're going to have dinner on a Monday - oy - we're all working. But we'll have pot roast and it will take 30 minutes or so after I get home to have the rest of my dinner ready. I make barbecue, sauce, stew.

Enjoy. It is a real time saver. There are many cookbooks out there for the crockpot.

Is more expensive necessarily better when purchasing? or is it just about the size?

There are many crock pots on the market. I have 2 myself. I like
the one with mutiple heat settings. Look for features you would use. I also like the removable crock because it is much easier to clean.

Dianne,

I love crockpot cooking. It makes life so much easier. I've done a bit of research on crockpots and there seems to be lots of inconsistency and differing opinions about which one is best with no clear cut winners even with the expensive ones. It's probably best to start with an inexpensive one in a size right for you to see if you like this approach to cooking before investing lots of money.

There are lots of great Crockpot Cookbooks out there but I like those by Phyllis Pellman Good best. They are compendiums of easy recipes submitted by real home cooks. In fact I am getting ready to toss the ingredients for a taco soup into my crockpot right now!

Hi Dianne

I too, love my crock pot! I would suggest getting one that will automatically switch to warm after it's done cooking.

They have so many different types of crock pots out now, and I think Target has some good selections and prices. Amazon and Wal-mart are also good places to look.

I've used mine for breakfast casseroles, dinners, pasta (using no bake noodles), and dips.

Good luck in your search! smile
