I recently helped two friends of mine who didn't quite have it together when it came down to fashion. Everything was too short, heels were too high for work etc. When I sat down with them at their home and we took a look at their closets for purging I realized that I couldn't just kill their closet. I had to help them get rid of a mindset that made the feel as if they needed the negative attention that certain outfits brought them. We went out to several stores during the consult but we didn't buy anything that day, instead we talked about what they felt looked good and then I would give them an alternative and they would tell me their opinion on the items and then we had one night of fashion breakdown. Thats when the client goes into their closet on their on and removes all the things that were deemed not suitable for the style that they're trying to achieve. I was very pleased to find that the next day their closets were almost empty and we could start fresh. I was more pleased that we could start fresh not because I removed items from their closet but because they removed from their closet the on their own. The items that we discussed early the day before that were removed didn't enhance their body or look but the staple items and the various items we purchased did even the appropriate work place shoes. We had a great time and they have since gone shopping and sent me the "before they buy" pics via phone and I have not had to make a correction yet and it's been more then two months.

That is wonderful news! You are so right, it is so important for people to really understand for themselves what they are wearing and what message it sends to the rest of the world.

I went U could talk to the Wife and get her to get rid of the Stretch Leggins/Jeans that are worn out. Plus stop wearing Men's grey pants when she can wear jeans to work (School Bus Driver).

Butt ugly both of them.

I guess it's time to have an "Oops" with bleach? Or lose them over the summer?

Sounds like you were quite helpful.

Steve - maybe if she's a school bus driver it's better that the teen guys aren't hitting on her! Maybe that's a field that it's best to look as unappealing as possible, and save the nicer clothes for when you're home!

Sometimes it's easier to sneek in little suggestions here and there. Like offer her and evening out with a bit shopping at a department store that you feel will flatter her. Sometimes all we need is a slight push in the right direction.

Your post sounds like What Not To Wear. Empty out the closet and educate the fashion deprived person. The first time I watched that show, they featured a woman my age. As they went through her closet, I couldn't believe how many things in her closet were just like the things I have in my closet. I paid attention to the tips and although I still have trouble letting go of some things, I am a whole lot better. I do let things go more readily now. An intervention is sometimes the only way people find out they need to change.
