I bought a heater for frankie...its one of those long bulbs kinda things, that you dump into the water. I put it at 27degrees celsius...should i leave it on all the time...the water gets down to 22 degrees if the heater is not on at the moment...
i heard somewhere that the filters can fizz out and fry the fish? is that true?

ps frankie is doing SO well <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> im so happy he's recovered... <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

pps i have a 3.5 gal tank and a 25W submersible heater...

You need a thermometer, as long as the water stays at 84 or less that would be 29 Celsius he is fine to have it on all the time. I would think it would be better for him to have stable temp 24 hours a day than have it climb during the day and fall at night as long as it is not climbing too high.

just make sure you r check your thermometer regularly, like when you feed or when you siphon...make it regular. When it starts to fritz (could be a year, or two or three, depends on a lot of things), then you just replace it.

Just since we are talking about heaters, i thought I would mention that I am using a reptile heater under mine. It is a huge heater, so I covered most of it with a wood cutting board and just a small amount under my fish tank. It brought the temp to 78, so it is better than where it was........72.
