I have been trying out different kinds of plants with my bettas...wondered what types of plants other folks have in with their fishie friends. <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I have java moss..which I like! Is great in the fry tank. I also have some other types which I don't actually know what they are called...but so far I think my favorite right along with the jave moss is "mondo grass" I think it is called. It looks alot like the little scallions you find growing in your lawn and so far it seems to keep just fine in the tanks.

Other types of plants I have don't seem to be doing as well. They go bad on the ends and rot..I did buy some plant food to put in and have tried it, but I don't notice a big difference yet.

I have a baby spider plant in Sweetie's tank, and a pothos branch in Pinky's. Both seem to be doing ok, although the pothos is less healthy since coming home with me. The otos can eat algae off the plants without damaging them -- which I think is really cool. And when the plants get tired of being immersed, I plant them and they grow like weeds! <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> Fortunately, my spider plant is popping out babies since it's spring, and that fish emulsion is great for the plants. :music:

I have gotten plants for my aquariums recently too, and have been doing sort of trial and error. I had a hornwort that didn't make it, and I think that a banana plant is going to be next. Does anyone have any good suggestions for REALLY easy to grow plants? I have java ferns and java moss, and one swordtail. I need ones that are really tolerant of low light, I think. I only have an 18" 15W flourescent, but it is supposed to be the plant growing kind. How does growing spider plants in the water work? I have LOTS of baby spider plants, and they are harder to kill than any plant I know of, so maybe they are a good choice for me <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I work at PetSmart in the fish department and a lot of people like the banana plants in with their betta's. They are very easy to maintain and they look really cool!
