Have you ever purchased a product whose manufacturer has promised to make a charitable donation with a percentage of your purchase? It's called "cause-related marketing," and it's gaining momentum. Would you ever purchase a product simply because of the charity tie-in? Would you ever switch brands to a brand that offers the donation? Curious to hear your input.

You can check out the first in a series on cause-related marketing here:

I definitely pay attention to charity offers if I'm buying something. I explicitly bought a hemp / canvas shopping bag because it donated money to charity and promotes the charity on its face.

I would probably do that. I have not seen any, but I also haven't been looking, either. Time to start paying attention.

I do too but I want to know how much. "A portion" is very vague. If a company says "We donate $5 from the sale of every item" then I'm more likely to purchase the item than a company that says "a portion". It also has to be a considerable amount. If an item costs $20 and they are only donating 25 cents then I'm less likely to be interested. But if its down to two of the same items and one company donates a portion and the other doesn't I'd go with the company that is making a donation.
