I can only figure it got scale when it was outside for the summer. It has been sitting next to my christmas cactus and I sure hope that they don't decide to start eating on that! Anyone have any remedies besides chemicals?

You can try spraying the plant with a soap solution. My oleander tends to get scale, and I keep checking it and wiping the leaves with a soapy sponge whenever I see traces of the scales. The only thing I have ever found that really stops the scale is a systemic insecticide that you put in the soil, but it smells bad so I only use it when the plant is outdoors in the summer.

Thanks for the advice...I will try the soap solution. I have just been cleaning the leafs every so often but don't seem to be wining the battle much!

Instead of buying chemicals specifically for them, you can make a 'tea' from tobacco and use that to water the plant. It isn't harmful tot he environment as long as you use natural tobacco and does not have the same harsh chemical smell.
I would soak the plant in tobacco tea and then thoroughly water.
Scale works because it latches on to the leaves and then protects itself with a waxy outer coating (hence the soap to get them off). The only real way to kill them is to use something that the plant will draw up through it's roots thus having the scale ingest it with the other juices from the plant.

So where would I get a natural tobacco? Thanks so much for telling me how the scale works...it totally makes sense.
