Hi I have been searching for an answer to for this and I cant seem to find one but this site seems like it may be able to help me. Ever since I can remember I could always hear this strange buzzing/ringing noise in my my head. I know its not comming from any outside source because if I cover my ears it actually just gets louder and I can actually hear it better, but the noise is always there and I don't hear it if im not trying to hear it, but if I actually concentrat on it then I can hear it or if its just extremely quiet. Now I been reading alot of forums about this and im getting alot of people saying its Tinnitus, but I dont believe its that beacuse the sounds they are describing arn't the same. Then there was this other forum that said its called the "Holy Naad" or the Sound of Om which is the sound of the Universe and then I hear about Clairaudiance and that this also causes the buzzing/ringing. So I am just wandering if there is anyone that might know what this could be from, who know maybe it actually is something medical related. Oh and sometimes I do hear people's voices and/or wierd noises like grwoling, moaning, or gasping.

Hmmm. It sounds as if you might - and I stress this is might - be enduring a rare form of tinnitus called musical hallucinations. Tinnitus can take many different forms and one of the forms is of sounds which seem real but aren't because you know they can't be there at the time.

You might like to look up www.rnid.org as their fact sheets have more information on this, and I would also suggest seeing your doctor.

My dad has tinnitus which generally is a ringing/buzzing but sometimes he can "make" it sound like voices. Sort of like if you stare at clouds you can start to pick out shapes in them. Your mind starts to impose an order on what it's hearing.

I have the same kind of high reed ringing/buzzing you are talking about. I've always had it, it is a constant background noise in my head. If I concentrate on it, it gets louder, but if I am busy doing other things - then I don't notice it as much.

However - if I have a migraine coming on, then it will go into overdrive and I have to conciously tone it down.

There's never been a medical explanation for it. I just kind of ignore it now.

I DO have extremely sensitive hearing normally though. It drives my husband up the wall. It is one of the causes of my insomnia. The least noise will wake me up. My kids also hate it, because I can hear them whispering stuff they don't want me to hear, LOL!

Yes that's why I suggested it might be a good idea to see the doctor - there are all sorts of possible causes for tinnitus and hearing strange noises, and if the doctor can't sort things out he may refer you on to another service which might offer specialist advice. I've had tinnitus myself since I was a child with increasing severity.

Michelle my mother's a bit like that - she says she can hear the grass growing!

There might be one other possibility...

Sometimes there are "inner" sounds people hear, like the note of a flute, violins, bees buzzing, a high-pitched sound like electrical wires.

I had an experience after doing some meditation exercises where I thought someone had turned on a furnace down the hallway - it was sort of like white noise. But when I went there, the furnace wasn't on. I went back to the meditation, and the same thing happened three times in a row. So I discovered it was not a physical sound, but something else - more inner.

Since then I have that sound any time I put attention on it, and it can be louder than traffic noise at times. I hear it particularly when I'm have a discussion with someone and it feels like we're both "in a bubble." Like there's information coming from them to me, and me to them, but from an inner place.

I don't know if that's what you're experiencing or not. But if it's tinnitus, that's nothing to fool around with, and I would certainly see a hearing specialist. If it's not tinnitus, it could definitely be an inner sound, which is a way of receiving knowledge. In other words, when I pay attention to WHEN I'm hearing the sound, it lets me know I should be more attentive to what's going on, or what I'm thinking at the time, and I usually have an "aha" moment.

Determining whether this is a medical condition is important. Once that possibility is completely eliminated, then I would consider another source, as others have advised.

I too have sensitive hearing, which is partly explained by my inherited night blindness. Just like my Father, I have no depth perception in low or no light. Yet I'm also light sensitive, which makes for a hard balance to maintain. They say when we have diminished capacity or loose one sense, the others can increase to compensate.

However, my "hearing" is not only sensitive, but picks up on things there is no explanation for. Since my pre-teens, I have heard unexplainable things from temporary buzzing and ringing to snippets of conversations, voices completely unrecognizable. Frequently, I'll think of a song, turn the radio on, and it's playing in sync with my mind. Or the DJ will announce the next group to be played and I somehow know which specific song is already queued.

Statistics would explain some of this, however my frequency of experiences is well beyond statistical probability. In college, I met someone who had studied with the Duke Paranormal Unit. After some cursory testing, he stated I could best be described as an antenna. I've never taken the time to attempt to hone this "skill." But I had to teach myself how to turn the volume down so I could sleep. I accomplished this by forcing myself to concentrate on one thing while trying to fall asleep. This takes a lot of practice, but has really helped.

If this technique provides you any relief, it could still signify two possibilities. The first being mind control over a medical condition. This is well documented through things such as bio-rhythms, but still signifies a medical condition which needs to be thoroughly investigated. The second significance could be this is not a medical condition, but something you'll need to learn to handle.

Be your own health advocate and research until you have exhausted all medical possibilities. Don't settle for a mere treatment of symptoms, press to identify the problem.
