I find this practice so irritating, rude and just lazy. I am in many yahoo groups and so often someone posts something for sale or asks a question and does not sign their name at the end.

Most times it is hard to tell a name by the email address. Is this considered bad etiquette or a look at the future to come? I run a yahoo group and we do round robins where we share out extra items. I refuse to keep someone in the round robin who will not sign their name and I post that on the group that there is no way to know who has the package when they will not sign their name.

The only time I don't sign my name is if I'm having an email conversation with someone, therefore they know who I am, or with my husband.

He should know my email address by now wink

I work at a place where signature blocks - name, rank, duty position, three phone numbers, three email addresses - are mandatory. It really hacks me off when people who don't work with my organization don't use signature blocks when I have to work with them. How the heck am I going to get in touch with them other than via email?

Outside of that, it's nice if there is no user name, or it's official. I don't bother with signatures here, because there's no real reason for people to identify me beyond my user name.

I belong to different professional listservs and do not understand the lack of a signature. And please, put your email under your name. Not all listservs allow you to reply to the original sender and everyone else doesn't need to read my response to your offer/request.

I think some people just forget - or sometimes people get so used to an automated signature that they forget to add one manually when they are not using their automated mail system.

For example, I'm not signing my name here. It is auto-signing in my signature. I use this forum all day long. So if I went onto another forum I might forget to post my signature manually, because I'm so used to it being added automatically for me.
