OK so now that Mr Finnicky is well on his way lets talk Colonel Mustard. He is in a 1 gal aquavision with a live potted broadleaf plant I think it is an Amazon sword...I bought it last week. The leaves are green and healthy, and i think maybe he loves it, but i'm not sure. He spends a lot of time just lying in the pot at the base of the plant. one time I really thought he was dead as he didn't respond as I turned ont he light to feed him, and then as I took the hood off he came out swam around and looks just fine. Flares at mr Finnicky when I give them their "social" time lol. If it's making him sick I want it out of there, if he loves it I want to leave him be to enjoy it. Still confused about these betta guys but they are beautiful

Glo,
The same thing happened to my pink.( now he's next to teel 24/7, so he's to "busy" ) Some bettas just like hiding out in plants, others are lonely,(but you let him visit Mr.Finniky, so that can't be the case) and it might even be ick eek . Check for white specks that sort of looks like dandrift. If he doese have the specks, it propaly is ick. But, I'm not really an expert,so,(once again ) you'r proppaly best waiting for Jilly to respond.

Nope I thought of that and believe me he has been scoured over for ick..sure don't see any signs of it right now, but I do know the fish has it before we actually see it, at least that's what i've been told. They are busy visiting right now and he sores around and flares away, then he dive bombs into the plant lies there for a while pretending to be dead or something...it sure looks that way at first glance ..then he comes out again to visit...sure hope I'm not missing anything important here. Talking myself into betta fix just in case as I type...but there is nothing listless about his swim when he is doing it.

Thanks
Glo

Glo, he's just blissing out, sleeping, zoning, etc. These fish do that - sometimes they scare me too "NOOOOO, can't be dead!!!" and then they swim up to me and beg for food. Maybe they are meditating! Who knows? But the plant is just fine - sounds like your betta is in love with it.

OK cool think I'll just settle down and run with that thought. If I relax about it it is really kind of comical..he certainly has a way of springing back to life at a moments notice, then next thing I know plop he's down loafing meditating vegitating or whatever. I'll enjoy him enjoying the plant.
Thanks
Glo

They really are all different little beings, eh? my husband's little white betta LOVEs his empty snail shell. Whenever Dan is not in his office, I sneak in, and catch the little guy sleeping all curled up in it. it's so cute!

I have a few that like to perch on plant leaves and stems, some that sleep on the gravel, and others that hang out on the top all day. Some are pretty peaceful and some aren't. That goes for the girl bettas too.

LOL Well right now he is resting , sleeping, meditating or vegitating on one of the leaves. Since he is NOT belly up I will assume he is relaxed and loving his plant instead of sticking my hand in there to disturb his blissful state wherever he is LOL

When I had my fish at work, Blue Fish actually, people would come by and think he was dead because he was floating at the top.

I finally put a post-it on the tank that said, "If I'm floating, I'm alive. Blue Fish"

My Bettas have other bettas all around them...so they don't do much snoozing...but I don't see that they are getting overly stimulated and stressed either from all the macho male testosterone company they keep. They have pretty much gotten used to each other and just stare, swim back and forth at each other and flare occasionally. They all have places they can go to get away from each other if they want too. I think the company keeps them from getting bored.

I have two females next to each other on the right top shelf ... and two females next to each other on the top left shelf...the males are all underneath (desktop level) with the exception of "Jax" who is on top next to "Opal". Don't have anywhere else to put him for now and I like him where I can get a good look at him

I do have one steel female over by herself on the hutch...ran out of room on the computer desk  Right now I am trying to find something with lots of shelves and counter space to put over in the other corner...so my husband can have his computer back His plans for that space are pretty much on hold for now.

Oh yeah...and "FruitPunch" is upstairs making like a nightlight for my youngest son. He's a pretty fiesty fish and seems to be just fine up there by himself.

Emg fish
