Some companies, especially some governmental agencies, require that a candidate take a polygraph or lie detector test.
I just learned that lie detectors do not detect lies. They can only detect whether deceptive behavior is being displayed (Kevin Bonsor - CFE News Tampa Chapter).
For some positions of trust companies requiere an extensive background check that sometimes goes 20 years back. All of it is part of preventing fraud and white-collar crimes.

What if as a condition for being hired you had to undergo these tests?

I do not believe in those tests. If I understand correctly how these machines work then if the question is your name Nancy Roussy and I would say because it is it will say I am lying. I would love to have it done to see if it would be the case. I am very nervous and am prone to panic attacks plus several things make me jump up.

As for that question if it would be a job that I want I would do it but I would probably also tell them what I believe about those machines and tests.
