Hello! First of all, if I'm ever in London, your article will be with me as well, lol! Thank you! In Charleston, South Carolina, you can take an evening ghost walk through the city. In addition to learning some history, you also get the added benefit of learning about ghosts that have haunted (and maybe still do) restaurants, businesses, hotels, houses, etc. The walk we went on was so much fun! Our tour group consisted of people who believed in ghosts, those that did not, and some that just wanted to see the city at night. It was a wonderful experience for all!

Washington, DC, is a great city to walk. Put on comfortable shoes and start at Union Station, see the National Postal Museum (often overlooked), visit Capitol Hill, (try to get a ticket in advance to sit in a Congressional session or an appointment to visit your Congressperson, see the Supreme Court and Library of Congress then make a loop around the Mall, visiting the National Gallery of Art (East and WEst Wings, and the Smithsonian Museums as well as the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial. Another good thing about this: it's all free.

I totally agree about walking in DC! It's a wonderful place to spend a few days and you don't need a car. If you do get tired of walking, you can take the DC Circulator bus for $1 per day and get on and off wherever you want to.
Williamsburg is another great walking place. No cars allowed in the historic area.

Wow Candyce, London eh? My daughter's all-time favorite walk there is ..... The Jack The Ripper Tour! Very spooky, dark and damp and atmospheric, but her friends refused to visit the tour pub! She was so disappointed (she didn't want to go in on her own!)
I might add it to my London Travel Guide below....

Thanks for all the great walking tour suggestions. It made me remember a ghost walking tour that I did years ago in Savannah. My daughter was about 8. Half-way through she got tired so we hired one of the open-air horse carriages to complete the walk. She loved it! Ghost tours are especially fun. Any other suggestions?

Hi this week in my Adventure Living column I mention five great ways to enjoy the fall foliage, including some great national park hikes. What are some of your favorite leaf-peeping walks?

Fall is a great time to walk through history. Explore Antietam National Battlefield Park, Sharpsburg, MD,site of the bloodiest battle of the Civil War, by doing a combination driving and walking tour. The meadows, fallow cornfields and creekside trails are especially lovely in fall. See the details in my Adventure Living column.

I've been to the military park in Vicksburg and it was great. There's no formal tour, but the drive through is scenic and the monuments are something to see.
You can tour the restored USS Cairo, a boat from the Civil War, and the connected museum which was very interesting. I actually found one of my ancestor's names on an autograph quilt that was on disply.
Then you can head over to the Old Courthouse Museum or take a tour of some of the antebellum homes. We toured Cedar Grove and would have gone on to McRaven if time would have allowed. I hope to go back when it's cooler and walking is more pleasant.
I have heard that they might be doing a living history cemetery tour similar to the one that Memphis has at the Elmwood Cemetery and I would not want to miss that.

I just came back from Colonial Williamsburg. This season the living history museum clebrates 30-years of African-American program. Find out about a great walking tour that presents the situation of the African slaves in Colonial Williamsburg. Check out my Adventure Living column on Colonial Willilamsburg.
Also check out my current newsletter for great deals in Colonial Williamsburg. Click on "travel" and then "Adventure Living."
