Italian food is one of my favorites. I like to have it at least once a week. Fortunately for me, we have some great Italian restaurants around my area, so I'm not just limited to the Olive Garden.

When I go to a new Italian restaurant, I usually try their Eggplant Parmasean - one of my favorite Italian dishes. That is my test to see how good the restaurant is.

So that got me thinking, I'm probably missing out on some other great dishes. So, what is your favorite Italian Dish?

Eggplant parmagiana is a wonderful dish. I made a baking dish full two weeks ago and it was wonderful. The eggplants were absolutely fresh and barely had any seeds. YUM!

Has anyone tried Sea Pak shrimp scampi? We did tonight and I thought it was pretty good. I don't know how to compare it to home made though.

I love all Italian food..........but if I had to pick one food, it would be the good old fashioned comfort food of spaghetti (the long windy stuff) and meatballs....(not too spicy, but not exactly mild) in a merlot wine enhanced sauce.

I love almost any kind of Italian food.
My favorite is cheese gnocchi topped with brocolli rabe in a garlic and olive oil sauce.

Brociaola, eggplant parm and basically any good old dish of pasta with sausage and meatballs. Lasagna ...too but it takes so long to make and I make all my stuff from scratch. Nice antipasto on the side, pour some vino and I am happy.

Has anyone here ever heard of chicken riggies. It originated from my old hometown of Utica, NY. Now they have a Riggie fest every year and it had really taken off that even Racheal Ray had a version on her show.

What about what the Americans have named it Italian Wedding Soup..we just call it chicken soup with escarole and tiny meatballs. Yum one of my favs and I make this for Thanksgiving contribution every year. I also love veal parmigiano.

(now I 'm making myself hungry so I will leave)

Are you talking about spagehetti or any pasta in general. The secret is in the sauce and the pasta should always be al dente. A good grated cheese over the top (Lucatella the best IMHO) Use only fresh ingredients..garlic, basil, bay leaf etc and even the simplest marinara sauce will make your dining experience a "10".

Stuffed pasta shells. Yum! We use the large shells (cooked al dente) and stuff them with browned ground turkey mixed with chopped spinach, fresh herbs, homemade tomato sauce, and parmesan. Then cover with more sauce and cheese; and then bake at 350 for an hour. Quick, simple and filling.

By braciola do you mean stuffed beef rolls or simply a beef chop?

In some areas of Italy (primarily the north) a braciola is a cutlet or chop cooked on the grill. The beef rolls in northern Italy are called involtini.

Your link to Braciole-Stuffed Beef Rolls Recipe-is how similiar to how I make mine. I watched how my grandmother make hers. That was many years ago. eek

My family came from the Abruzzi region and it would be interesting to know if that way of cooking braciole is common to that region or area.

Just wanted to let you know that I think your Italian Food Site is fantastic.

My family is from the Abruzzi region also. And that is how my mother made braciole.

Thanks for the compliments.

For those unfamiliar with the Abruzzo Region it is directly east of the Lazio region--About 50 miles from Rome. Many immigrated from this area to the US.

I love egg plant parmiganno but strangely my best was in a Hero in New Jersey. Otherwise fried zucchini flowers that I had in Frascati, an incredible porcini mushroom pizza cooked in a wood burning stove and served on a wooden platter in a restaurant in the Alps. Then there is the brilliant Italian bread with roast artichokes, buffalo mozzarella, extra virgin olive oil washed down with a robust red wine. Tagliatella Alfredo or pasta fagioli. Oh God I have to go and eat something now. Ciao

I love zucchini flowers.

My husband conducted a wedding in Vicenza. The reception appetizers were fried zucchini flowers, fried sage leaves, and breaded and fried green olives. They were all incredible.

They were battered first. It was a light batter, not bread crumbs.
