I bought a new betta on Sat morning. He has not eaten anything I offer. Freeze dried Bloodworms, betta bio gold, which my other two inhale. His color is good. I even tried frozen brine last night.

When I changed about 2/3 of his water last night after not eating the brine I also added some betta fix and 1 drop fo Aquarisol. I have not added salt...He is in a 1 gal aquascene at about 75 degrees. Any suggestions.

Thanks
Glo

bettas can be picky if the've had an exclusive diet before they became yours. make sure this uneaten food is promplty fished out so it doesn't spoil his water, and wait him out. he WILL eat. Eventually. He can go up to one and even two weeks without eating, and he's just sulking. let him settle in, give him warm temps and good water conditions, and a place to hide. let me know in a few days if he won't eat anything - live food might well break him down soonest, but who knows? These fish are all little persons with their own minds. Good luck!

OK Thanks for your response. What kind of live food are we talking if he still won't eat. Have no idea where to get live food.

He spends some time without the light...sometime with a light on...sometime alone and sometime with another betta in site...he will flare some at another betta but not at all like the other 2 I already have.

He will have good clean warm water, and hopefully an appetite soon

Emg, do you have some thoughts on live or frozen foods that have worked for you? And Glo, just ask at a local fish shop - they always have a fridge full of these foods

Well, so far the only foods I have tried with these fish are the bio-gold betta pellets, regular betta pellets bought at walmart, live flightless fruitflies(which are an eternal pain to get from the container into your fish, but they love em), live brine shrimp, freeze dried blood worms and bloodworms that come in a "vitamin rich gel" ,and....freeze dried shrimp.

So far...my fish REALLY LOVE those bloodworms in the gel ! Like I said in another thread here...they jump right out of the water when they see that packet coming. Next on thier favorites I would have to say the brine shrimp. My new steel female has learned to just put her mouth up to the eye dropper and keep sucking...she's a pro. Of course, my steel male, takes him a little longer to figure out the technique...like Colleen's blue, he likes to watch it float for a bit to be sure it's safe. They have alot of fun chasing the shrimp they missed around the tank/bowl and it keeps them entertained for awhile.

I think the shrimp are the most trouble to feed as far as the process of getting them from the egg into your fish..but I don't mind the effort as they are good for the fish. I am sure with some more trial and error I'll come up with a system that's more efficient and easy.

Emg

YES We are eating...freeze dried bloodworms last night for the first time, and again this morning...guess he got as hungry as i was getting worried. I added 1 betta bio gold this morning after he ate the bloodworm. No thanks we don't eat those  . I know they should have a varied diet. I bought some Tetramin tropical granules today while I was at Walmart and here's the real kicker are you sitting down?

I bought 2 more female bettas and 1 male. HELP me please, somebody please stop me I now own 6 bettas.!!!!

I am redoing my sunroom though and no I won't put them in the direct sun and I keep it nice and cool in summer afternoons, just morning sun out here with my computer and what will be a room full of bettas swimming around placed in various spots between the plants who also love the sunroom.

Will let you know how eating progresses with the one I got last week and of course my 3 new ones.

I am widowed so no worry about what my hubby will say...LOL

LOL Ok good now I feel much better. Actually I rinse out the little containers they come in and am stacking them away carefully just in case I might need them for the baby thing...can't imagine. But ya know I have been widowed for 6 yeats now ansd am in my mid 50's so I think a fairly young widow. I kinda like surrounding myself with life...my 2 little shihtz's Dexter and Daphne like it too. Well as long as they still get their share of attention.

I also keep all the containers that come with the bettas. I use them for all sorts of things..like draining the brine shrimp into...moving fish from one place to another...etc.
I keep the larger ones I get from walmart as hospital bowls. I float them in the heated tanks to keep my sick fish warm while they heal. I use the hoods to keep the bowl from tipping or floating around by closing it down on the top of the bowl. Works very well for me.

This is getting to be quite the hobby/obsession! I just spent time today moving fish and aquariums around working out a brilliant idea I have for water changes in my breeding tank. Poor papa is having quite the time keeping up with all those eggs. Ahhh...babies in my house again!
