This is an interesting article. Tyree says he through with Urban Lit. The main reason seems to be that the genre is now calling the shots. Retailers are even getting into how gritty the title sounds as it relates to sales. This is the link to his article:

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but there is a huge African American Literature Industry still out there that has nothing to do with ?street lit? or gold diggaz, thugs, etc. Perhaps instead of throwing in the towel, Mr. Tyree should challenge himself to write best sellers. Money talks. If he were to write some best selling novels, he could name them whatever he wanted.
