OK, so "Alien" (the original) came on last night.

And I'm sitting here screaming at Ridley "Are you crazy?!? DOn't go back for the cat!"

Now I love my cats - but I'm not facing one of those acid-dripping, multi-jawed aliens to go back and get them.

My husband walks calmly into the room and says,"It's not so unrealistic - people go back into burning houses all the time to get their cat".

And I'm thinking - fire, yes - alien, NO!

Would you guys go back for the cat?

I think about this every time i watch the film. it's one of the defining characteristics of Ripley, actually. In the second movie she takes the tank in to save the marines when they are being ripped to shreds in the heat exchanger, and of course goes back for Newt at the climax.

So it makes sense.

Would I go back? um. I might. Hard to say what one would do when actually tested. I do know i have done other brave acts so that's all i have to go on.

Though I can't say I've ever had a close encounter of that kind, I would like to think that I would totally go back for the cat. Luckily, the acid-dripping aliens probably wouldn't stand a chance against my little monster's vampire fangs!

Wow. I can see the dripping acid. Where does one get an alien cat, anyway?

Lol, I think I'm just a magnet for alien animals in general. This one in particular came from a homeless man living in a parking lot behind Burger King many moons ago.

I would think the cat would be able to run faster than I could - I would just hope the cat would come back for me!!!

I would for sure go back for Jonsey the cat in Alien. I am crazy about cats though smile
A lot of film critics have called this part in the movie sexist, saying that only a woman would go back for the cat. I agree it's part of Ripley's character though, and the cat is really the most innocent thing on the ship. Besides, it can't be sexist - cos I'm a guy, and I'd go back for Jonsey any time, killer Alien or not. I swear I would LOL

So I'm the only chicken in this bunch? Bwaka!

Like I said, facing a fire is one thing - facing that monster - uhuh!

I'm not even gonna pretend.

Kitty's got claws - I don't!

I am with you, Michelle. Like I say - the cat can run faster than me so has a better chance on it's own. Me? I would be right behind the cat on the way out. No way would I go back in there!

I would probably go back for the cat. But only because the guilt of not going back for it would haunt me for a very long time. crazy

Yes I would. And for a dog, a bird or any other animal who would be my pet. I don't care if there's a big and nasty alien somewhere I am going back until I find him or her.
