Does anyone know how to save a bamboo plant?
The yellow stalks and leaves feel like a looming financial disaster... isn't the bamboo plant supposed to bring financial success or something? smile

Lucky bamboo is actually a stalk of a draceana variety...they'll grow in water for a long time, but really prefer soil. Have you been using tap water?--that contains both chlorine and flouride, to which many plants are sensitive. If you let the water you intend to use on your plants sit overnight in an open container, the chlorine will dissipate, but the flouride won't.

You might try planting your bamboo in houseplant potting soil and watering once every week with distilled or rain water. I did this with mine just as soon as I got it, and it is pretty happy.

Hope this helps!

I use tap water for watering Lucky Bamboo and my plant seems to be healthy and its growing everyday. I have heard that this plant brings good luck, but I do not truly believe it and rather like it has a house plant.

Thank you - I never thought of repotting it.

I do water it with distilled water... but I've been lazy and haven't kept up with it lately.

I do not mean to be racist at all, but I have a plant I got from a friend who calls it a Wandering Jew. I would like to know the real name and how to care for it. It is kind of a vine with fairly small leafs that are green and purple. My friend that gave me the cuttings has a large hanging plant, but mine hasn't grown much in the 8 months I've had it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don't feel bad, that's the (old) common name for Tradescantia, a vining house plant that isn't too hard to care for. Give it plenty of light to keep the purple color in the leaves, let it go slightly dry between waterings, and it should grow happily for you, especially if you have it in good potting soil and feed it every month or so.
They get leggy after a while, and that's when you can cut off a few ends and start some new plants.
