How many of us have heard the term "throwing away your vote" on a third party candidate? Does it burn your blood as much as it does mine?

I hate the fact that voting your conscience is somehow worse than voting for the lesser of 2 evils. I think the more people who vote for the party or candidates that represent what they believe, the more attention independent parties will get and possibly start succeeding more at the local levels if not national level.

Maybe in the long run this will wake people and question the 2-party system. Or do you think I'm being naive?

Trish,

I totally agree with you and that phrase about throwing away your vote makes my blood boil as well. The 2-party system is full of corruption and something has to change. That is why I am passionate about third parties.

Last election I did vote for an independant party, because I just couldn't stand for my vote to be even partially responsible for putting either of the other 2 in office.

I actually thought the Liberatrian party had a chance last year, and it was the highest percent an independant party has ever gotten. But so far this year there has been NO coverage on any of the independants. Heck - all we hear about are Hillary and Obama!

Michelle,

I agree that you don't hear anything about the third party. You have to be rich and either be a Democrat or Republican to be recognized by the mainstream media.

Unfortunately, I probably won't be voting Libertarian this year. Since their presidential candidate was one of those who moved to ban Wicca from the armed forces among other issues, I'm disgusted and just plain disheartened. I feel that now I will have to vote for the lesser of two evils.

Trish,

I'm sorry to hear that. I do hope that you find that candidate to vote for.

Thank you Cynthia. I will do the usual, that is make a checklist where each party and candidate stands on the issues and take it from there.

I have voted for an Independent party candidate in the past. I remember so many people saying, "I really wanted to vote for _____, but didn't want to throw away my vote." I was sad that we lost an opportunity to make a big impact.

One way to get more voices heard is wen pollers ask who you are voting for name the libertarian. If a certain percentage states they support the liberarian than the candidate can have a place in the debates.
