I so want to try out for the show but don't think I'd make it too far ;0)

Did anyone watch it? What did you think of the Diva - I thought she would have been kicked out the first night. I like the young guy who is 19 and the one who did the french onion soup.

I agree that The Diva should have been kicked off! She got on my nerves. "And I did it all in a pretty dress and high heels." Lord. I would love to be on this show - it's one reality TV show that I have at least a half a chance of winning!

I hated the Diva as well, but the comedian just flopped. She froze in the first challange and then when she went in front of them to defend her meal she froze again. She lacked personality which we can all say the diva sure had.. it was an anoying personality but a personality none the less

Well the Diva was not a Diva this week. I liked Kevin the first week with his french onion soup but he got the boot so have to find another favorite to follow and cheer on to the finish line.

I picked the last two seasons correctly so need to watch another episode to get a sense of who can make it.

So, I just have to say this about the Diva--I've managed restaurants and there's no way in Hades she'd be allowed to wear high heels in any commercial kitchen I've ever been in charge of or even worked in.

It's totally hazardous. OSHA would have a fit. Ditto insurance companies. Kitchen floors almost always have some sort of spillage/grease/trash/wetness somewhere (you see how fast and furious these people work--it's worse during the rush when people are paying), and those rubber mats for cushioning have holes that a heel would totally get caught it.

Heels + cooking = busting your a#$.

You're right, of course. I missed it last week, so I can't wait for Sunday. Anyone watching Design Star? I am such a sucker for reality TV ...

I liked the girl that won the first challenge and the Red lobster spot. She toned it down a bit and the Diva looked funny with the slip up in the kitchen and ruining the $300 shirt and shoes. I am enjoying this season. I like Shane too.

Well, I would say I told you so, but geez! What if she'd had hot stuff in her hands, or whacked her head?

This is why chefs do not wear $300 blouses and Pucci shoes (was that the brand name she called?)

Have you ever felt or worn a chef's coat--they are coats! LOL--thick, heavy things, more like denim than oxford-cloth. So they can be washed constantly, but also, so they won't melt against your skin if/when you do splash hot grease on you.

During the summer when I take kids to summer camp and back I see all the chefs in pasadena wearing those heavy white coats. I don't know how they can wear those.

There must be a reason why they all wear that style? Even Emerill wears that on hot days doing those morning shows.

It's partly that it's a tradition and a symbol of being a real "chef". If you go to culinary school, you have to wear them (and usually the silly hat, too!). Plus, it's typically hot in kitchens, so chefs are going to sweat no matter what they wear!

That being said, I have been a F&B manager and had chef coats but I usually wore mine as jackets since I am very hot-natured. But, I didn't go to chef school, so I never "had" to. I do like the short-sleeved ones Gordon Ramsey wears--that I could wear.

But, in general are made to fit properly, close to the body and with sleeves a bit shorter so they don't get in the food or the "fire". So, that's a safety aspect. Plus, they are white as a "cleanliness" symbol. And, at the end of the night, you can see how hard (or sloppily) you worked by how dirty your coat is.

I was sad to see Shane leave last nite and hoped it would have been Lisa instead. The two remaining guys did much better in front of camera. So who will be the next Food Network Star?

Anyone else disappointed in the finale and the pick for the next food network star? I liked Adam better. I could not understand half the words that Aaron said, he was muffled and hard to decipher. Poor choice they made and actually Lisa was the best she had ever been, plus that challenge with her in black outfit climbing the big storage thing.

I was also disappointed that Adam didn't win. He seemed more fun and lively than the others. I thought his show idea, I'm Always Hungry in Philadelphia was a good one.

I would have prefered Lisa or Adam. I think Lisa more than Adam just because it didn't take her as long to perform as Adam. but then again I have a thing for a diva in stilletos
