What do you do to relieve a headache? I find that massaging around my scalp and eyes usually helps.

Depends on the type of headache. For migraines, I've tried almost everything through the years. I only found out about triptan drugs last year and they work better than anything I've used.

For sinus headaches, sudafed (the original stuff) usually works best.

For tension headaches, hot baths or showers, hot or cold packs, and massage all can help. I also use OTC pain relievers --Excedrin or Ibuprofen usually.

You can try a cold compress or some ice in a ziplock bag on the
back of your neck and try to lay in a dark room no noise
there are also pressure points you could try but that is alittle hard to explain on here
And don't forget drinking water!

Hope this helps smile

I don't know if you have them in the US but here they have a strip you can buy for headaches that you just put on your forehead. It might just be for kids I am not sure, but it does sound good, if adults can use it.

I find that most of the time, provided I take it near the start of the headache, Co-dydramol is very effective but you can only get it via prescription from a doctor. You have to be careful how much you take because if you take too many doses over a few days you can cause rebound headaches.

I've also used Neurofen and Ibuprofen with good effect and found Boots Paracetamol with Codeine is good too.

I have migraines combined with vertigo, inner ear problems and tinnitus - nasty.

I agree with Deb. The choice of treatment depends on the type of headache.

For tension type headache (the most common type of headache) 1-2 hour of rest may be en effective remedy and mild pain relievers (ibuprofen or acetaminophen) are very effective if you need prompt relief.

Migraines are more intractable. I heard that some people get relief with herbs like feverfew and butterbur.

I've found that when I cut down or eliminate caffeine from my diet the severity of my migraines are decreased. I also add more protein to my diet during this time. When I feel a migraine coming on I take my Advil for Migraine right away before it gets severe.
