There's a lot of reality TV out there. Do you think any of it helps to enhance self-esteem?
If so, which one(s)?
Thanks for your insight!

Overall, I would say no. Most reality shows feature "hotties" with unrealistic bodies and portray them as the ideal woman (or man). However, a few reality shows (The Biggest Loser for example) may give some people hope for themselves since they feature a more realistic cast.

Owl, I agree with you!
Have you ever seen some of the programs on VH1 like Rock of Love 2? I'm embarassed my the way the women (girls) dress, talk and act. It's trashy.
I do like Kamora Lee Simmons' Life In The Fab Lane on the Style network.

I think they pick girls that are too slim for these shows and the bare minimum is all they wear. Although I am in Los Angeles and when the weather is warm here the styles on people is very similar and not flattering. I don't think people have mirrors.

Most of the women (girls) in the beauty commericals are 16 looking like 30 and most of the actresses are a size 0.
I'm at the stage in my life where I don't base my self-esteem on my size or my looks. Although I have to admit when I was younger it had a major influence on my perception of reality.

The older I become, the less important "being perfect" even matters to me. I am who I am - like it or don't.
In my opinion, TV is an artifical world and it's difficult to keep up with a world of make believe.

For me, most reality TV is designed to glorify competition and get people to focus on things and people outside of their own reality. I feel it pulls them into a more competitive attitude in general which truly erodes a person's true sense of self and self value. Should we learn as a nation to draw our focus on our own mind, body, spirit development and who we are as spiritual beings having a human experience, the world would echo a greater sound of exhaling. And reflect a deeper sense of valuing the virtues of others.

Most reality shows do increase our self-esteem due to the fact that we (real people) are a lot more in tune to reality than those people on "reality" shows.

Its TV. All the actors look perfect with makeup, camera angles, digital airbrushing, and editing. Underneath all of that, most of them have flaws.

I think Oprah's Big Give fosters self-esteem and shows us how we can make a difference in a person's life with kindness.

Right I think it all comes down to what you choose to watch. You can complain about the books that exist in the world but you can easily choose to read great books or to read trash books. It is all completely up to you.
I think there are several awesome reality shows - the Big Give and the Biggest Loser - that inspire us and encourage us to better our lives.

I watched the final of BIG GIVE and Oprah's show today - it touched my heart.
Yes, it helped my self-esteem - I'm now thinking of ways I can make more of a difference. When you give, you feel good.
