Great ideas here! I did read all the posts but it's going to take me awhile to catch up to everything! Thanks to Emg, for taking the reins. Welcome Back Jilly !
Glad to again have your input. You'll have to tell us about your trip to the aquarium when you get a chance.

Bummmer, but I was too caught up in family 'stuff' to go to Scripps. I DID manage to sneak into San Diego PetSmart and buy a lovely new betta I am definately crazy, yes? I made a nest for him in my open glove box, put him in that (in his jar), and drove all the way home (seven hours). He's fine and in his new Aquascene. He's a lovely blue-black body-type with yellow-clear fins, the lacy kind. Not a combtail, but still a beauty. I will breed him to Purple Girl. So I feel a little better about my black fish dying. So far, I have not had luck with Wal-mart bettas. All my other bettas have made it, but my two wal-mart ones died shortly after purchase. I am so glad your Green Girl is doing well. That medication you gave her must have made the difference.

Yeah Jilly...that little green is doing VERY well and she looks fabulous with all her fins all grown back in !
She is a pretty good size too compared to my blue female. (I'd say she is about twice as big) Her ovipositor is really hanging out there...is that a sign that she is full of eggs? I know they usually have eggs in them most of the time...but my blue female doesn't show that white dot like the green does. How old can a female be before she isn't any good for breeding anymore? I know you have said that the males need to be young..like 6 months or so..what about the females?

YOu can breed the girls for as long as they are healthy, boys should be under a year.
If your green has a distended belly, she is ripe. The ovipositor dot means she is either ripe, or thinking about it. Do NOT expose her to males unless you have a boy for her, or she could get all excited and egg-bound. I lost a girl that way. Just let her move peacefully though her "period".

Ah....so she should NOT be next to Mr Teal in her hospital bowl...Right-O...taken care of whilst I type this reply... She is now down on the table top instead of the shelf.
I wonder, how would green and a cambodian type Teal mix ? I'm not really sure he is a 'real' cambodian. As far as I know, cambodians are those with white bodies and pastel colored fins. That would describe Teal sort of except that he does have a bit of coloring on his body, but none on his head except for the undergill parts, which look to be a very pretty blue color. And, he has very pretty dark eyes.
